Named for the Swiss city of Winterthur,
the ancestral home of Jacques Antoine Bidermann, a son-in-law of Eleuthère Irénée
du Pont, the founder of the du Pont family and fortune in the USA. Winterthur in Switzerland was one of the few places in the world that produced famous locomotives, also used during the settlement of the USA.
